Electronic Resources

In addition to traditional print materials, the Library subscribes to a wide  range of electronic resources. These include subject databases, e-journal collections and e-books.

Electronic Journals

The library currently subscribes to approximately 17,000 unique electronic journals which may be accessed from the Learning Resources tab in Portal or the Electronic Journals link on the  Library Homepage (remember to login to Athens with your Network password, BEFORE selecting Electronic journals link).

The electronic journals are managed by TDnet. Use the Quick Search box only to find journals BY TITLE. Do not use the Search TDnet option. To find articles on specific subjects always use a subject database.

If you experience any difficulties accessing the journals off-campus, check the Troubleshooting guide for hints and tips to correct the problem. Use the feedback form if you are still having problems or contact a member of the social sciences team (details below)

The Library provides access to an increasing range of e-books.  There is a separate e-book filter on the Library Catalogue, if you wish to search for this category only, but also appear on the full catalogue with a icon to identify them and a "Click to access" link. Most are Athens authenticated. If you would like to know more about the e-books, or would like to consider ordering any, please contact any of the Social Science subject library staff (details are below).

Social Science Subject Guides.

The Library subject team have created a series of subject guides, covering the full range of subjects taught within the faculty - primarily to support students' information needs. However, they may also be useful to show you the range of subject specific information that the library can provide. We encourage you to contribute to the usefulness of the subject guides, so if you would like to suggest material or links to add to these guides to more fully reflect your research interests, please let us know, using the contact details below

Many Research students are also undertaking an element of teaching so you may be using virtual learning environments such as WebCT Vista to deliver or support your module teaching. WebCT is run by the Institute of Lifelong Learning through Campus One. They run regular training sessions on how to upload materials for your module. The Library cannot access WebCT, so any queries or problems need to be referred to the Campus One helpdesk.
