Database

Coverage details

Westlaw UK

The Current Awareness service from Westlaw is updated every working day - three times per day and covers the most recent 90 days.  It covers the latest UK legal and regulatory developments, including new law cases.

You can access the service by clicking on the Current Awareness link on the Westlaw homepage.  From there you can check developments by type of material (e.g. case law, by subject or you can browse through highlights of the most important legal developments. The Current Awareness Archive contains content from the past 10 years. The Westlaw Current Awareness service includes the Times and Independent Law Reports in its daily updating service.

All England Cases

The
All England Reporter, part of the LexisLibrary service, provides an ongoing updating service.  Notes of cases are added throughout the working day and links to the full text of transcripts are provided where these are available.

LexisLibrary

You can search cases most recently added to the LexisLibrary database by selecting Cases from the menu at the top of the welcome screen, and changing the date range.

Justis Daily Cases

The Justis Daily Cases database is based on the case report summaries from the Daily Law Notes Web site produced by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales. Coverage starts from June 1999. The database is updated each working day, and 30-40 cases are added each month.  Only cases that develop or clarify a point of law or that set legal precedent are included.

Print resources

  • Newspapers
The  daily broadsheet newspapers are also a good place to look for very recent law reports.  The various campus libraries subscribe to a selection of daily newspaper titles.  Click on the titles below for more information about the holdings on each campus.

    Times

    Financial Times

    Guardian

    Independent

    Irish Times

Many newspapers have a dedicated law section which appears on a specific day of the week ( for example the Times law section appears in Tuesday's paper).  It is also worth noting that in the Westlaw UK database the Current Awareness service includes the Times and Independent Law Reports in its daily updating service.

Internet resources

  • Internet Resources for Law - the online Library Guide
Websites are very often the best place to look for recent judgments.  For example the House of Lords, The Court Service for England and Wales and the Northern Ireland Court Service make important cases available extremely quickly on their own websites.  These websites, as well as other useful case law internet sites are included in the Case Law section and other cases or legal proceedings may be found on the Tribunal and Public Inquiries section of the online guide.
