New OvidSP Interface [02/07/10] OvidSP will move to a new interface from 1st August 2010. A full training programme will be rolled out from September 2010 to anyone who requires it. Biosis Previews 1969-2008 [25/01/10] The Library now has access in perpetuity to Biosis Previews Backfile, 1969-2008. This will be a useful information resource for Staff and Students in Life Sciences. The Database can be accessed directly from the A-Z list of Databases or by logging on to Web of Knowledge and selecting the resource by clicking on the tab to Select a Database. New Electronic Trial [16/04/08] The Library has set up a trial of the “Science of Synthesis”, see below for more details. The trial will run until 31.5.2008. There is a feedback form and as always we will welcome your feedback.
Science of Synthesis contains 34 volumes, covering the fields of Organometallics (Category 1); Hetarenes and Related Ring Systems (Category 2); Compounds with Four and Three Carbon—Heteroatom Bonds (Category 3); Compounds with Two Carbon—Heteroatom Bonds (Category 4) e.g. Ketones, and Heteroatom Analogues of Aldehydes and Ketones, Quinones and Analogues, NEW: Volume 29, Acetals: Hal/X and O/O, S, Se, Te and Volume 31, Arene-X (X = Hal, O, S, Se, Te, N, and P); Compounds with One Carbon—Heteroatom Bond (Category 5): e.g. Fluorine Compounds.
The Electronic Backfile (1909 to 2003) provides immediate access to 146 000 product specific experimental procedures, 580 000 structures, and 700 000 references in all fields of synthetic organic chemistry - dating back to the early 1800s.

Electronic Trial [07/04/08] The Library currently has a trial of Essential Science Indicators from ISI.
ESI provides science performance statistics and science trends data based on journal article publication counts and citation data. It covers 10 million articles in 22 specific fields of scientific research, and is updated every two months. A feedback form is provided and we will welcome your comments. New E-book database for Environmental Sciences [25/01/07] EnviroNetBase is a new collection of over 120 e-books from CRC Press covering a range of environmental topics. It can be accessed from on- and off-campus using a password for off-campus access.

New Forensic Medicine Encyclopedia Online [25/01/07] The Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine published by Elsevier is now available online. It's listed in the Library's list of databases and can be accessed on- and off-campus.
Description
"Increasingly, high profile criminal and civil legal actions around the world highlight the interactions between medicine and the law. Forensic and legal medicine describes the body of knowledge that encompasses this interaction. The terms generally embrace forensic pathology and clinical forensic medicine."

New Food Science Database [25/01/07] Food Science and Technology Abstracts is now available. It's listed in the library's list of databases and is available in Ovid Online.
"For more than 30 years FSTA has been the essential source of information on food science, food technology, and human nutrition for anyone working in the food sector, whether in industry, government or academia.
FSTA specialist scientists monitor approximately 1800 journals and many other types of literature (books, conference proceedings, theses, patents, standards, legislation, etc.), published in over 40 languages, and select the items relevant to the food sector. They then condense each one into a short, highly informative abstract giving the key points and conclusions, and assign index terms."

Nutrition Abstracts and Reviews [19/01/06] Nutrition Abstracts and Reviews is now available online from 1991-. It is a fully searchable abstract database covering the latest information on all issues related to food and health – from food composition and safety to obesity, parenteral nutrition and allergies.It can be accessed on-campus only from the library's list of databases. When you get on to the CABI databases page, click on Search Database and you will be automatically logged in to Nutrition Abstracts and Reviews. An online guide will soon be available. New Psychology Full-Text journals [02/11/05] APA journals are now available online in a database called PsycARTICLES in Ovid Online. The individual journals will soon be listed in the A-Z list of e-journals. You can search the journals by logging on to Ovid Online, select Journals@Ovid Full Text, Browse journals by subject, and select PsycARTICLES. New electronic resources [01/11/05] The Library now subscribes to Annual Reviews online and the Combined Chemical Dictionary. We currently have trial access to InterNurse.com and will subscribe from 1st December. We also have a trial for the month of November of a new database EMBiology which is available in Ovid Online. A feedback form for this is available and we will welcome your feedback on how useful you find it. All the resources are linked from the usual database page at http://library.ulster.ac.uk/electronic.

Cochrane Library [20/07/05] Cochrane Library of evidence-based healthcare literature is now available on Wiley Interscience with a new interface. The information remains as in the previous version but the new version is more user-friendly and should enable improved searching and retrieval. A guide to the new version is available but please ask your subject library staff if you have any questions. Another version of Cochrane called EBMR (Evidence Based Medicine Reviews) is now available in Ovid Online. Users familiar with using Ovid for CINAHL, AMED, MEDLINE etc may prefer to use this interface.

CSA Databases [10/02/05] There is a new interface to the Cambridge Scientific Abstracts databases. Access remains as before but, when you access it, it is branded as CSA Illumina. It offers improved and enhanced searching, a more user-friendly interface, and includes an alerting service. New E-Journal Deals [10/02/05] The library has recently subscribed to a number of e-journal deals in addition to those we already have. Most of the journals are available cross-campus and off-campus although a small number are restricted by the publishers to on-campus access. These include Wiley Interscience, Kluwer Academic, Nature Publishing, BMJ Publishing, Oxford U.P., Science Online, British Psychological Society, and Brill. This significantly increases the range of journals available electronically to UU students and staff. All the new journals are listed on the A-Z list. Top of Page
