Ireland Orders in Council |

Northern
Ireland Orders in Council are UK Statutory Instruments. These Orders
in Council equate to primary legislation which might have been enacted
by the previous Northern Ireland Parliament and Assembly or for
which powers were not devolved to the new Northern Ireland Assembly
in 1999. During a period of suspension of devolved government in
Northern Ireland, legislation that would normally be passed by the
Northern Ireland Assembly may also be made by Order in Council.

Rules of Northern Ireland |

| The Statutory
Rules contain the main body of secondary legislation. From 1922
until 1972 they were known as the NI Statutory Rules and Orders but from 1973 they became the NI Statutory Rules. The
S.R.s are the rules, regulations and orders made by the NI rule
making authorities and are the equivalent of the UK Statutory Instruments.

1922 until 1972 they were known as Public General Acts, for
