Electronic Books

The University of Ulster Library has a growing collection of electronic books, also known as eBooks.
There are over 4,000 eBook titles on the Library Catalogue, and we are continually adding individual e-book titles where they meet the requirements of teaching and research at Ulster.

eBooks are available across all subject areas, and are available from anywhere at any time. You can print or copy selected sections of eBooks, and search for keywords within the text of the book.

The easiest way to access eBooks is to login to the University Portal and select the Learning Resources tab, where you can then click on the Library Catalogue link to find individual eBooks titles available.

An 'eBooks' sub-catalogue can be selected to restrict searches to eBooks only (illustrated).
They can be identified in the Library Catalogue by the icon

and the location of the book is E-library.
A link is provided to access the full text of the eBook.

In addition, there are many other full text books available via Library databases which do not appear in the Library Catalogue. These are listed below.

The full text content of the collections listed below can also be searched using the search screens of the providers.

American National Biography: Profiles of more than 18,000 men and women from all walks of American life
ASM Handbooks and Alloy Center: 25 volumes of the major reference work for metals and metalworking online. Also available off-campus via Knovel Library
Barbour Environment, Health and Safety: Provides full text documents to health, safety and environment sectors.
Bibliorom Larousse: Access to six dictionaries: Petit Larousse Illustré, Thésaurus, Dictionnaire des Citations, and the French-English, French-Spanish, and French-German dictionaries
Books@Ovid: A selection of electronic books in medicine and healthcare
Britannica Online: Includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus
Business Source Premier: A growing number of business and economics-based titles available
Classical Music Reference Library: Baker's Dictionary of Music, Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians, and Baker's Student Encyclopedia of Music and more
Construction Information Service: Over 25,000 documents from over 500 publishers covering all aspects of construction, planning, housing and the environment
CRCnetBase (formerly known as EnviroNetBase): Full-text handbook database of over 120 books covering a range of environmental topics [titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Croner Transport and Logistics Reference Books: Reference book for Exporters, Reference Book for Importers, and Road Transport operations
Dictionary of Irish Biography: An indispensable reference work for Ireland, spanning over 9000 lives
ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online): Access to scanned full text copies of 180,000 (200,000 volumes) 18th Century books, pamphlets and ephemera
Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine: Available from ScienceDirect [also available via Library Catalogue]
Encyclopedia of Genetics, Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics: All four fields in an online format for the first time
Encyclopedia of Human Nutrition: Available from ScienceDirect [also available via Library Catalogue]
Engineer-It: A collection of up to date product catalogues and handbooks from thousands of manufacturers
Halsbury's Laws of England Online: Provides the only comprehensive narrative statement of the law of England and Wales, containing law derived from every source.
Hein Online: A number of law-related book titles
Hospitality and Tourism Complete: There is full text for 440 publications, including journals, company & country reports, and books
Institute of Hospitality Information Service: Access to the Institute's electronic textbooks through their catalogue [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Irish Property Law: Full text of a range of major Irish land law titles. Select Practice area from red taskbar and choose Property.
Knovel Library: Science and engineering reference books, including ASM Handbooks and ASM Alloy Center [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Lexis Library: Contains many eBook titles including Halsbury, Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents, Blackstone’s Criminal Practice and Williams on Wills
LION (Literature Online): A fully searchable library of 330,000+ works of English and American poetry, drama and prose, plus biographies, bibliographies and key secondary sources.
Localaw UK: A number of encyclopedias covering issues of importance to local government
MyiLibrary: A growing collection of over 600 titles covering all disciplines. Download limits apply - please do not exceed otherwise users may be locked out of the resource. [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Occupational Health & Safety Information Service: Thousands of key health & safety documentation relevant to the workplace: safety training, first aid, electrical safety, manual handling and dangerous substances
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography: 50,000 biographies of people who shaped the history of the British Isles and beyond, from the earliest times to the year 2000. [Also available via Library Catalogue]
Oxford Music Online: Grove Music Online and other Oxford reference works on music [Also available via Library Catalogue]
Oxford Reference Online Premium: Over 175 Oxford reference titles, scholarly articles from the acclaimed Oxford Companions series & all 20,000 quotations from the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations [Most titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Referex: Hundreds of premium engineering titles covering electronics, computing, mechanics and materials. Use the eBook tab to search for books. [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Safari Books Online: Books for computing, programming and information Technology [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
SpringerLink: Over 700 eBook titles included in the SpringerLink collection, focussing on computing, robotics and information technology [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Taylor and Francis Online eBook Library: A collection of 220 key online textbooks from Taylor and Francis selected for relevance by Subject Library staff [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]
Westlaw Academic Services: A number of important eBook titles relating to law available under the 'Books' tab
Wiley Online Library: A collection of science and engineering-related titles published by Wiley [Titles also available via Library Catalogue]

Full text books can also be found using Google Book Search by restricting searches or results to 'Full view'.
