Institute of Hospitality ebooks and e-journals service [31/01/12]
The Institute has introduced a new single search interface for finding e-journal articles and e-books. All users of the Institute's website (to access ebooks and ejournals) need to register to set up a personal username/password. To do this, access the site using the generic username/password. Details are available here.

New Marketing Mentor Online Service [29/11/11]
Staff and students can now access Marketing Mentor - a new online service containing thousands of searchable, integrated webpages on all aspects of marketing. Access is automatic on-campus - a unique username and password is available for off-campus access.

Datastream Access at Magee [21/11/11]
The Datastream financial database is now available for searching in the Magee library. The database contains global time series data on stocks, stock indices, commodities, exchange rates and currencies. A bookings system is in place. If you want to use the database please book a timeslot at the main library desk.

Revised Teaching and Research Support Guide [27/09/11]
A revised version of the Library Guide, 'Supporting Teaching and Research' , has recently been produced. This guide aims to introduce new academic staff & postgraduate research students to the full range of Library services and resources available to them. Printed copies may be collected from the main service desk in each of the LRCs.

New search interface for FAME database [21/09/11]
The Library has now switched over to a brand new search interface for the FAME database. Updated daily, this database provides access to very detailed company accounts and financial ratios for millions of UK and Irish companies over a 10-year period, where available. Data can be extracted and presented in a range of formats including spreadsheets, graphs and pie-charts. Training will be provided by library staff from the start of the new academic year or you may contact one of the business librarians on your campus.

New Look for ABI Database [21/09/11]
On Wednesday of this week, the Library will be switching over to the all-new Proquest search interface which will consolidate a large number of our existing databases onto one single platform, including ABI Global. This new platform is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. Key databases which will be migrating include: • ABI Global • ANTE • Aqualine • ARTbibliographies Modern • ASFA • ASSIA • BHI: British Humanities Index • Conference Papers Index • Design and Applied Arts Index • Ecology Abstracts • ERIC • IBSS • Physical Education Index • Proquest Health and Medical • Social Services Abstracts • Sociological Abstract • Water Resources Abstracts. Subject librarians will be providing training to students on this new platform from the start of the academic year. A short video on the platform is available by clicking here.

Business dissertations on ABI database [23/08/11]
18,000 full-text dissertations/theses from North American universities are available for searching on the ABI-Global database. To search for a thesis on a particular research topic, click the ‘More Search Options‘ link on the default search screen and then select ‘Dissertations’ as the publication type. Note that the search interface to this database will be changing next month. Further information is available from the business library team.

'How To' Guides for Researchers [01/08/11]
A series of online guides for academic staff and research students have been prepared by the publisher, Emerald. These guides offer practical tips and guidance on how to design, develop and present your research. As the Library subscribes to the Emerald Management journals database, these guides are available to all staff and students of the University. The ‘How To’ guides are part of the Research Zone of the Emerald website which also includes advice on winning research funding and finding a research collaborator. To access the Research Zone, logon to the Emerald database from the Library's A-Z list of databases and click on the relevant link from the list of options on the left hand side of the screen.

Name Change for Xtreme Information [01/08/11]
Xtreme Information, an international archive of advertisements, has been renamed Ebiquity and the search interface has been rebranded accordingly. All of the search features remain as before.

Global Market Information Database - new search interface [18/04/11]
GMID, Global Market Information Database, provides access to international market analysis and socio-economic/demographic data. It is an excellent resource for researching country intelligence, international markets and international consumer lifestyles. The search interface has recently changed with improved usability and a slightly new name, Passport GMID. Although the search screen looks different, the core functionality and content remain the same. There is also a short introductory video available from the Help option to explain the main changes.

UK Company Data added to KeyNote [16/03/11]
The KeyNote database is used primarily to research market intelligence on UK sectors. The database has recently been expanded to include an extensive collection of company data covering more than 7 million UK companies, which is updated daily, as well as details on directors, secretaries and shareholders. With an integrated search facility built into the homepage, users can perform a dual search for company information and market research in one simple step. The financial data (balance sheets, cash flow statements, profit&loss accounts, key ratios etc.) is available over a 5 year period and can be extracted in either PDF or Excel format as well as graphical representation

Index to Theses [15/02/11]
Index to Theses has enhanced its full text linking service to link through to full text theses in the British Library’s EThOS project and 40 UK and Irish University institutional repositories. This is in sharp contrast to the 3,000 available links in 2008, when Index to Theses started monitoring theses’ full text download availability. In addition, Index to Theses has created a new sub-collection of Irish theses, increased coverage of theses accepted for higher degrees in the UK, improved help pages, and a fresh new look to the database. There are now 480,000 theses in this database.

New Leisure and Tourism Electronic Books [21/01/11]
92 complete books, and over 1500 book chapters, including relevant chapters from our other titles, have been added to CABI's Leisure and Tourism database. The eBook collection covers the period from 2000 to the present day, and will be added to as new books are released. To browse complete books, use the eBooks tab at the top of the search page, or browse individual chapters through the tab below the search box. On-campus access is automatic but to access the database off-campus, please login via the University Portal and click on password information from the Library's A-Z database listing.

WARC - new search interface [05/01/11]
A brand new search interface has recently been launched for the WARC marketing and advertising database. The new interface provides for more powerful searching as well as additional content, such as advertising expenditure forecast data.

New Business Portal [08/12/10]
The British Library has launched a new Management and Business Studies portal. The portal aims to help researchers find high quality management and business research publications by providing access to the vast British Library digital and print collections. The portal contains: Full text research reports, working papers and conference papers from selected Universities, videos and exclusive articles by leading researchers and consultants. It also includes details of books, journal articles, reports, datasets, sound recordings and other resources from the British Library’s collections that are relevant to researchers.

ABS Academic Journal Quality Guide [11/08/10]
The Association of Business Schools (ABS) has produced it's latest version of the Academic Journal Quality Guide which is of use both to academic staff and students in undertaking and publishing research. For academic staff, it provides guides to the range, subject matter and relative quality of journals in which business and management academics might publish the results of their research - empirical and theoretical. For students, it provides a good indication of the best scholarly journals for undertaking research in their subject area.

Emerald Management [16/07/10]
There is now a brand new, improved search interface to the Emerald database. As part of this improvement, the database also now allows direct export to the RefWorks software package for managing references. Access to the database is through the database listing on the Library Homepage or from the University Portal ('Learning Resources' tab).

Sports Marketing - Online Lecture Talks [24/06/10]
The Library has arranged access to the Sport Marketing series of online lectures produced by Henry Stewart Ltd. This series contains 10 talks specially commissioned from leading authorities and practitioners. On-campus access is automatics. A unique username/password is needed for off-campus access - contact library staff for details.

Leisure Tourism database [21/06/10]
The Leisure Tourism database now contains over 100,000 abstracts for the leisure, hospitality and tourism sector. The search interface has recently been revised and a new database guide has been prepared. A unique usernasme/password is needed for off-campus users.

Tourism Insights service [31/05/10]
The Tourism Insights online service is no longer updated and will be withdrawn after September 2010. Free information on relevant market intelligence for the UK tourism sector will continue to be made available at: www.visitbritain.org/insightsandstatistics

Business Source Premier [28/04/10]
The coverage of Business Source Premier has been expanded on a trial basis (to the end of December 2010) to cover over 3,000 journals, half of which are academic titles. The service continues to provide access to other non-journal material including international market research, country reports and company profiles.

Emerald database - Backfiles [23/04/10]
A large archive of management journal articles dating back to the 1950s has been added to the Emerald database. Access is from the Library Homepage or via the University Portal ('Learning Resources' tab) using your network password.

Internet Research Skills - Tutorials [21/04/10]
The Intute Virtual Training Suite provides free Internet tutorials on using the Web for education and research, written by qualified lecturers and librarians. 31 tutorials on a range of disciplines, including Business and Management, have recently been updated. The tutorials teach internet research skills for degree subjects and are ideal for students looking for advice and guidance on using the Web.

Advertisements database [21/04/10]
The Library has access to XtremeInformation. The database contains an international archive of more than 7 million TV, cinema, radio, press, outdoor and Internet banner ads from more than 55 countries. Access is from the University Portal or Library Homepage using your network password. Note that a one-off registration is needed at first login.

New subscription to FT.com [07/01/10]
We now have a new subscription to FT.com providing complete access to all content of the Financial Times over the past 5 years. Access is automatic for on-campus users and a personal login can be set up for off-campus users.

KeyNote Reports database [04/09/09]
The KeyNote database now has a new search interface. The full-text market reports have be accessed from the 'Market Intelligence' link in the left-hand column. We also have access to the Business Ratio Reports on KeyNote which contain very useful comparative financial analysis on UK companies across a wide range of industrial sectors. Access to the database will be through Athens authentication.

New scanning service [02/09/09]
Under the terms of the University’s new Photocopying and Scanning Licence, the Library has introduced a service to make available scanned extracts from books, journals and magazines published in a number of countries including the UK,USA, Australia, canada and Ireland. In preparing module reading lists, academic staff may now submit scanning requests for individual book chapters and journal articles to their subject librarian. To best comply with the licence requirements, access to these electronic offprints will be made available through the appropriate online reading list (TalisList) on WebCT. Academic staff who are delivering distance learning courses may also make use of our HERON service for getting copyright clearance on multiple chapters/articles from a book/journal issue. Further details on either the new scanning service or HERON are available from your subject librarian.

Company Dossier Database [13/05/09]
Access to the Company Dossier database is now available via the Nexis UK service. This database draws together up-to-date news and financial data on UK and international companies. For public companies, 12 month's data is provided on share price movements. It is also possible to make financial comparisons between a selection of companies. The Nexis UK service may be accessed through the University's Portal (Learning Resources) or WebCT or directly from the Library Homepage using an Athens password.

Accounting standards database [03/03/09]
CCH's GAAP Xtra database contains the full-text UK/international accounting and auditing standards as well as companies legislation and direct taxation information. Limited to single user access. Logon by using your Athens password.

Marketing Podcasts (GMID) [26/01/09]
Podcasts on various marketing topics are now available from the database, GMID. These podcasts cover the latest trends and insight into particular industries, So far, most of the podcasts cover the hospitality, tourism and services sectors.

Tourism Insights [17/10/08]
Previously published between 1989 and 2004, Tourism Insights has been relaunched both as a printed quarterly journal and online service. The service provides access to the latest industry news, debate, research and market intelligence. Available across all campuses, access is by IP address - no password is required. Off-campus access is not available.

Company Reporting Online Service [17/10/08]
Of interest to those who need to keep up-to-date with trends in financial reporting practice, the Company Reporting online service is pan-European and identifies changes in corporate reporting practice and governance procedures by Europe's listed companies (S&P Europe 350 and UK FTSE 350). A unique username and password is required to access the service and this may be obtained by contacting the Library.

XpertHR [06/10/08]
XpertHR offers access to a huge number of journal articles on human resource management, news information as well as employment law, case studies and model policies. Access is by use of an Athens password.

Hospitality and Tourism Complete [20/08/08]
Hospitality & Tourism Complete covers scholarly research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism. This collection contains more than 749,000 records, with coverage dating as far back as 1965. There is full text for 440 publications, including journals, company & country reports, and books.

Datastream Database [12/08/08]
Staff and students of the Department of Business Retail and Financial Services on the Coleraine campus can now access the Datastream database for international financial and share price data. The database may be accessed from a designated PC in the Learning Resource Centre. To book a time slot to use the database please ask at the Coleraine LRC Information Point.

Closure of Portrush Library [27/06/08]

With courses transferring to Belfast and Coleraine, the Library on the Portrush site closed to users on Friday 30th May. The book stock has now moved into either the Belfast or Coleraine LRCs depending on subject area. All of the stock transferred to Coleraine LRC is accessible to users and most of the bookstock is also available at the Belfast LRC.

Former Portrush library books should be returned to the LRCs at Coleraine, Jordanstown or Magee. Disruption of services will be kept to a minimum, however, if you have any queries please contact library staff

Withdrawal of Perfect Analysis database [28/03/08]
The Perfect Analysis database was withdrawn by the company at the end of February 2008. The Library has purchased access to the Datastream database for use on the Coleraine campus in order to support the financial services students looking for equity data. For further details please contact a member of the Business and Management library team.

Institute of Hospitality - New Website [20/02/08]
The new Institute of Hospitality website (formerly HCIMA) provides access to over 300 electronic textbooks through its catalogue. The full content of each book is available for free access and viewing and some e-books allow the printing of up to one chapter. Subjects covered include hospitality management, tourism, catering and hotel operations, hospitality finance and events management. The website also contains access to 50 electronic journals covering hospitality, leisure and tourism as well as general business titles. A unique username/password is required when logging in to the website - please ask a member of library staff for these details.

New Business E-Books [22/01/08]
A number of key business textbooks are now available online through the library catalogue. These will be flagged in the main catalogue when searching for particular books. Alternatively, you may search the e-book catalogue by selecting the e-books option from the drop-down menu to the right of the keyword search box. Enter a search term to look for e-books in a particular area.

Creative Club Database [05/11/07]
Creative Club contains a huge archive of UK advertisements dating back to 1997 from all media formats including television, cinema, radio, press and internet. The advertisements may be downloaded. Use your Athens username/password to access.

The WARC.com database provides access to over 45,000 papers, case studies and news summaries from over 40 international marketing and advertising sources. To access please use your ATHENS username and password.

New Advertising Guide [27/09/07]
To help support the new advertising programme running at Magee, a guide to our library resources has been produced. The guide provides information on printed and electronic sources, useful web links, reference books and links to relevant reading lists.

Business Electronic Books [29/05/07]
We are currently trialling Biz/Ed Premier which provides access to good quality business textbooks published by Thomson Learning. Covering all aspects of the higher education curriculum, the service also includes access to research articles and other related materials aimed at developing critical appraisal skills. The trial is available on campus only. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

New Law Guide [09/03/07]
A new guide to finding legal information has been prepared by the law librarians. The guide covers how to find relevant law books, journal articles, cases and legislation - in both print and electronic format. Printed copies of the guide are now available from any of the library service desks.

Frost & Sullivan Market Research [09/03/07]
The Office of Innovation and Enterprise provides access to the Frost and Sullivan market research database. Available on-campus to staff and students, the database covers a range of key industrial sectors where there are emerging market opportunities including healthcare, ICT, chemicals, automation, aerospace and defense, chemicals, food and energy.

Advertising database trial [05/02/07]
Over the next few weeks, the Library is trialling the WARC database which provides access to one of the largest intelligence sources for the advertising and media community. The database includes over 25,000 articles, case studies, research reports and is augmented with best practice papers, practical guides and daily news. Click on the login tab on the top left hand corner. The username and password are available by contacting library staff. Feedback on the usefulness of the database would be greatly appreciated.

Creative Club database trial [26/01/07]
The Library is currently trialling the largest archive of UK advertisements. The Creative Club database contains advertisements from tv, radio, cinema, the Press and the internet dating back to 1997. Access is by a unique username and password which can be obtained by contacting a member of library staff. Your feedback on the usefulness of the database is very welcome.

Expanded Emerald Database [17/08/06]
The Library's access to the Emerald database service has now been extended to cover 142 management journals. The database also includes 190,000 reviews from the world's top 300 management journals, 2,500 literature reviews and 700 case studies. The literature reviews and case studies may be searched separately by selecting 'Collections' from the Resources options in the top right hand corner of the opening search screen. Full-text articles date back to 1994 with abstracts available for earlier articles.

Lexis-Nexis - New Search Interface [21/06/06]
Lexis-Nexis (Business and News) contains over 34,000 full-text sources including 12,000 worldwide news sources (eg. the Belfast Telegraph; Irish News and Belfast Newsletter) and a huge range of company, financial and industry sources (eg. ICC Directory of UK Companies; ICC Financial Analysis Reports – Ireland; Hoovers Industry Snapshots; Worldscope International Company Profiles). The database also provides access to a variety of trade and professional business journals (eg. Accountancy Age; Campaign; Investors Chronicle; Management Today and Marketing Week) as well as a vast range of full-text legal information sources including legislation and case law. Access is by use of your ATHENS username/password. A short user guide has been prepared.

HCIMA - Full-Text Sources [21/06/06]
The HCIMA website now includes access to over 100 electronic textbooks as well as 50 electronic journals (both trade and academic). The electronic books are held in the HCIMA Library Catalogue with the primary focus on hospitality, leisure and tourism. The e-books can be accessed by logging on to the HCIMA's Online Catalogue using a membership number and surname password. Note that access to restricted to one person at a time - if a title is in use, users are offered an email alert when the book becomes available. The electronic journals may be searched separately from the HCIMA website. For off-campus access, please contact the Library to obtain the login details. On first login, users must register their basic details on the website. A user guide has been prepared.

Global Market Information Database [22/05/06]
GMID is an extensive online business information system providing business intelligence on countries, industries and consumers. It offers integrated access to statistics, market reports, company profiles and other information sources. There are over 1 million demographic, economic and marketing statistics available, 205 countries are researched, 4,500 market reports are accessible in full-text format and there are profiles on over 3,000 consumer goods companies. Access the database using your ATHENS username/password.

Accountancy Direct - New Search Interface [24/01/06]
The search interface to Lexis-Nexis's Accountancy Direct database has been radically changed. This database provides access to full-text international GAAP standards, Tolley's tax guides, company law cases and handbooks and accountancy news and information. Access is by an Athens password. At login, users are connected to a general search screen for Lexis-Nexis. To connect to the accountancy and taxation sources click on the 'Practice Area' tab. To make this the default search page, click on the "Make this My Start Page" link.

Good news for those interested in international business - 192 EIU ViewsWires have now been added to the ABI/Inform database. These provide concise briefings on changing conditions in overseas markets.

New user guides are now available for 2 databases that have changed recently. The financial database, Perfect Analysis, and the management journals database, Emerald FullText, have been relaunched with new search interfaces.

Business Source Premier [26/09/05]
The Library now has access to this major business database which contains over 7,000 full-text sources including journals, country and industry reports, market research reports, company profiles as well as a collection of electronic books. EBSCO's Business Source Premier database is acessible using an Athens username and password. It contains nearly 2,000 active journal titles, over 500 market reports, 10,000 company profiles, thousands of country and industry reports as well as a growing collection of electronic books. Some of the important business journals included on the database are Harvard Business Review, all of the Academy of Management titles and California Management Review.

New guides have been prepared on the library resources available to support the programmes on international business, business improvement and innovation management, and travel and tourism. A revised guide has also been prepared on the huge range of print and electronic resources available for business statistics.

Business Dissertations on ABI/Inform [19/04/05]
10,000 full-text business dissertations and masters theses have recently been added to the ABI/Inform database. Most of the dissertations and theses come from the period 1999-2002 and are primarily sourced from North American universities. Further information is available from a member of the business library team.

A new library database with abstracts from over 50,000 journal articles and research papers. This new library database provides abstracts from over 50,000 journal articles and research papers in the leisure, hospitality, tourism and cultural sectors. Accountancy Direct [10/02/05]
