deaths and other casualties resulting from fires are based on
returns provided by local authority Fire Brigades in the United
Kingdom, including Northern Ireland. Considerable detail is provided

Wales. They include the estimated costs incurred in anticipation of
fire, costs borne as a consequence of fire and the cost of the Fire
and Rescue Service. Average costs are also calculated for different
types of fire.

figures shown are the fire statistics for three years in order that
some comparison can be made.
They are on a county by county basis
even though some counties have more than one local authority running
different brigades. The
Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government
produces an annual statistics bulletin which contains statistics of fire
and other emergency calls dealt with by local authority fire
brigades during the year as well as details on fire fatalities in
the year. The statistics are based on information supplied by fire
authorities.
