Background
The
following references provide
some background information on recent developments at the University
of Ulster in support of the implementation of our institutional e-learning
strategy.
University
of Ulster - A Case Study
December 2001
After evaluating
several course management systems from leading vendors, the University
of Ulster selected WebCT as their institutional VLE. The University
spent considerable time developing a coordinated e-learning strategy
prior to its institution-wide implementation of WebCT’s course management
solution during 2001/02 and created clear linkages between its institutional
mission and the adoption of e-learning. This Case study reports on
how the decision to implement an enterprise-wide e-learning platform
has had a meaningful impact on the development of a stable, robust
e-learning program.
C. Uhomoibhi, 'Implementation
of Online Module Resource Lists using TalisList', Irish
Universities Information Systems Colloquim
March 2002
The theme of this
conference was 'Working Together: convergence and co-operation in
the digital electronic age'. This presentation describes how the University
of Ulster Library, an early adopter of TalisList, used this new web-based
resource list management system to ease student navigation between
course content, resource lists and library material in paper and electronic
form.

Uhomoibhi, 'University of Ulster VLE/Library Experiences', VLE
Exchange of Experience Day
June 2002
The aim of this
event, hosted by Talis Information Ltd., was to provide an opportunity
to share ideas and experiences of online learning, specifically the
ways in which different HE institutions have approached the introduction
of effective VLEs. The presentation delivered outlined preliminary
developments and further plans for Library - VLE system integration
at the University of Ulster. A brief review is given in September
2002 edition of the TalisTalk
newsletter.

Uhomoibhi, 'Integrating WebCT Courses with Library Resources using Talislist',
4th Annual WebCT Conference
July 2002
This presentation was delivered as part of the 'Integrating
the Campus' conference track which focused on technical solutions
for resource development and wide scale e-learning deployment. It
examined how the University of Ulster leveraged WebCT hosted user
and course information and Talislist hosted library resource information
to integrate its WebCT and Library systems. Providing students (and
faculty) with context sensitive integration between on-line course
content and library resources will greatly enhance the educational
experience and lead to greater and more efficient use of learning
support materials.
